Chartres is world famous for its cathedral, which according to many is the most beautiful in France and all Gothic world. Chartres was the land of the Carnutes, Celtic tribe that inhabited the area. From the fire of the Romanesque church in the late twelfth century, the construction of the present cathedral was begun, which for 1220 had already built its central body. Its glass of XIII century has remained almost intact throughout history, and apparently it produces a special light inside conferring special character to this construction. Inside is venerated Our Lady of Chartes, which gives its name to the cathedral.
