Toulouse (Tolosa) fue conquista romana antes
del siglo I a.c., y posteriormente, a la caída del imperio fue capital del
reino visigodo hasta su expulsión por los francos, a partir de 507. Desde ese momento
los visigodos se quedaron con la Septimania o Galia Narbonensis junto con
Hispania, donde prosperaron hasta 711, año de la invasión musulmana. Tolosa fue
la capital de la herejía cátara, hasta que estos fueron masacrados por Simón de
Montfor y la Aquitania pasó a manos de los reyes de Francia, poniendo las bases
de la futura unidad nacional. Tolosa fue el último escenario de la Guerra de la
Independencia española, o Guerra Peninsular como se la conoce también, siendo
tomada por el ejército de Wellington al mariscal Soult el 12 de Abril de 1814.
Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial tuvo la suerte de no participar y no ser
bombardeada. Su población se incrementó en los años 60’s del siglo XX por la
llegada de repatriados de Argelia, los Pied Noir. Actualmente es un centro
importante de la industrial aeroespacial. Su conurbación es la quinta de
Francia tras París, Lyon, Marsella y Lille.
Toulouse (Toulouse) was Roman conquest before the first century BC, and later, to the fall of the empire was the capital of the Visigothic kingdom until their expulsion by the Franks from 507. Tolosa was the last scene of the Spanish War of Independence, or Peninsular War as it is known also being taken by the army of Duke of Wellington from Marshal Soult on April 12, 1814. During World War II was lucky not to participate and not be bombarded. Its population increased in the 60's of the XX century by the arrival of returnees from Algeria, the Pied Noir. It is currently a major center of the aerospace industry. Its conurbation is the fifth in France after Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Lille.
